Elon Musk revealed that Neuralink has successfully implanted a brain chip in a person, and that the person is recovering well. Musk made the announcement on X on January 30, stating that the initial results are promising in detecting neuronal mutations. This is the first time that Musk has mentioned the test results since May last year, when Neuralink was approved by the FDA to insert chips into the human brain.

Neuralink has been seeking volunteers, and in September 2023, the company announced that it had passed the test from an independent evaluation board of leading US experts and doctors, allowing it to test implanting chips on paralyzed individuals.

According to Ashlee Vance, who wrote Musk's first biography in 2015, thousands have signed up to participate in Neuralink's trials, but the company has yet to find the first suitable person. Now, it appears that Neuralink may have found someone to implant the chip, as announced by Musk himself. However, the company declined to comment when contacted by Reuters.

The surgery to attach the brain chip involves cutting the skull, which takes several hours, and then using a robot to insert the device along with the ultra-thin chip part, which consists of about 64 different fibers. The fibers are so thin that they are only 1/14 the width of a human hair.

Neuralink, which was co-founded by Musk in 2016 with seven other members, aims to develop a brain-computer interface that will enable humans to merge with AI in the future. However, the company faces significant competition from startups like Synchron and Onward. Vance noted that Musk has urged Neuralink to speed up its progress the same way the world deals with the apocalypse.
